Healthcare and the Intersection of Poverty: How to Serve the Underserved
Birthing outcomes have been directly associated with one’s race, ethnicity, zip code and even socio-economic status. In this session, we will dive into mental models (the internal understanding of how life operates for people living in different socio-economic classes) which play a huge part in the multi-dimensional macro environment that is our health and health outcomes. Especially for those experiencing poverty, pregnancy and birth can be complicated to navigate amongst other stigmas and barriers in the healthcare system that is built for those with resources.
In order to honor the DONA International vision, a doula for every person who wants one, we truly have to think of every person that wants one, including those that may not be able to afford one. This session qualifies for 1.5 (DONA/DEI/CA-BRN) contact hours.
