Chauntel Norris

Chauntel Norris is one of the nation’s leading experts in incarceration and lactation. She is a Certified Lactation Counselor, a DONA trained doula, and a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. Chauntel is currently serving as the Co-Director of the AL Prison Birth Project where she works diligently to improve the conditions of incarcerated birth giving persons. She is the Co-founder of Baobab Birth Collective, serves on the board of the Alabama Breastfeeding Committee and the West Alabama Women’s Clinic, is an active member of the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, a Community Transformer for Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE), and serves on the Alabama Maternal Health Task Force. She received both her B.A. in African American Studies and B.S. in Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Chauntel is an advocate for breastfeeding in vulnerable communities and strongly believes in the right of all lactating people to be able to breast/body feed their babies.
