America Allen, LCSW is a licensed trauma and perinatal therapist, speaker, and the founder of suNu Healing Collectively, a North Carolina-based mental health practice focused on the healing and liberation of Black and Brown millennial women. With over a decade of experience in clinical social work, she blends Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic trauma healing, and self-compassion to support women in unlearning survival-based behaviors like perfectionism, self-silencing, emotional suppression, and chronic overfunctioning.

America specializes in working with high-achieving clients who intellectualize their pain, overanalyze their emotions, and struggle to feel safe in their own bodies. She helps these clients move from hyper-awareness to embodied healing—shifting out of mental loops and into self-connection. Through parts work, nervous system regulation, and identity reintegration, her approach empowers women to reclaim the parts of themselves they abandoned to survive.

Her clinical expertise spans postpartum mental health, birth trauma, attachment wounds, identity loss, and the eldest daughter wound. As both a therapist and educator, America is known for her ability to translate complex frameworks into emotionally resonant and culturally grounded language. Reclaiming the Self After Birth: Postpartum Healing Through IFS & Somatics

This workshop invites clinicians, therapists, and birth workers to deepen their understanding of postpartum mental health through a trauma-informed, parts-based lens. While many approaches focus on postpartum depression or anxiety as diagnostic categories, this session explores the identity fragmentation, emotional overwhelm, and somatic distress that often go unseen.

Drawing from Internal Family Systems (IFS) and somatic trauma healing, participants will learn how to identify and work with common postpartum parts—such as the Overfunctioner, the Inner Critic, and the Self-Sacrificing Caretaker. Practical tools will be shared to support clients in reconnecting with their inner world, regulating their nervous system, and reclaiming the Self after birth. This session is especially beneficial for those supporting intellectualizers and high achieving birth persons.
